Every time I drive through my neighborhood, I’m filled with pride seeing so many American flags waving in the breeze. Along with that pride, there’s a sense of sadness when I see one that’s faded, torn, or weathered, a flag that’s clearly been flown with love, but needs to be retired respectfully. To me, those flags aren’t just fabric; they’re a symbol of sacrifice, service, and the freedom we all share.

“A tattered flag isn’t a sign of neglect, it’s a sign of love and pride that deserves to be renewed with honor.”

It hurts my heart to think that many of those flags are left that way not out of neglect, but out of circumstances, maybe their owners can’t afford a new one, or can no longer climb a ladder to replace it. Life gets busy, and sometimes, people simply don’t know how to properly retire an old flag. Yet behind every one of those worn flags is a proud American who meant well.

That’s why we started Guardians of Old Glory, to help ensure that every flag flying in our communities represents our nation with the dignity it deserves. Our mission is simple: raise funds to purchase new, American-made flags and connect with Scouts, ROTC units, and volunteers who can replace those tattered flags with new ones, while properly retiring the old ones with honor.

Together, we can keep Old Glory flying with dignity

This isn’t just about replacing flags — it’s about restoring pride, uniting neighbors, and inspiring the next generation to serve their country in small but meaningful ways. Every new flag raised is a reminder that patriotism is alive and well in our communities.
